Steilsteven Rival is a comparatively young barge in the fleet of charter vessels; the ship was built in 1929. After her services as a freighter, the Rival was reconstructed to be a sailing passenger ship. She has quite some draught, which makes her stable in the water, even under sail.
What’s the plan?
Sailing from Hoorn, Lake IJssel and the Wadden have plenty of possibilities to design your trip the way you want! Do you want to learn all kinds of maritime skills? You have found your ship! The crew is very experienced and loves to teach you how to handle the ship. Would you rather lie on deck with a book, have some inspiring talks or search the horizon through a field glass? That’s also possible.
Warm ambiance
The interior with its spacious day time area has a traditional, warm ambiance and is fully equipped. Behind the saloon you find two double cabins. In the front of the ship there are five cabins for four persons. Tall people can step on board without concern, because four beds are 2.10 metres long.Meet the skippers couple
Sarah about Harry:
“Harry
was born and raised on an IJssel tjalk. As a young boy he already sailed along
with his dad. After he had some experience as a ship mate, he got his skipper
degree at the age of 16. At 18, he bought his first ship. Al this time, Harry
kept on sailing Lake IJssel and the Wadden Sea with the same amount of passion
as 30 years ago. He loves to tell you all aout this unique area and the
influence of the tides. Young, old, active sailors or not.. he will make it an
unforgettable trip.”
Harry about Sarah:
“Sarah is the driving force. She supports me fully in my passion: sailing. She
has a commercial background and took on the administration. Her passion for
cooking is inherited from her family. She takes on the challenge of cooking
delicious food in all sorts of circumstances with pleasure. Groups that want to
cook themselves, she can assist in word and deed. Throughout the years, Sarah
got more experienced in sailing. Now she is my right hand on board. She’s in
charges of the ropes and the sails and makes sure you are safe on deck.”
