Environmental friendly, unique looks and warm-hearted. That describes the one masted clipper the Nieuwe Maen (meaning: ‘The new moon’) and her female skipper Gaby. The ship was built in 1891. In the saloon, old and new elements are combined, which gives it a cosy ambiance. There’s lot’s of party games available for both inside and outside use. Also there’s a tv with a dvd player and a library. You will feel at home quickly.
Green Key
The Nieuwe Maen has a Green Key certificate. What’s that? It’s the international standard for sustainability. Companies with this certificate do everything they can to protect the environment, without losing comfort and quality for the guests. They do more than the laws and regulations require.
Meet Gaby
“Since 2011, I’m the owner of the sailing clipper Nieuwe Maen. This has enriched my life. Before that, I was a swimming teacher in outside pools and fort the coast guard. When something news comes along, I usually say: ‘Oh I will take care of that, just need to find out how’. Because of this need for challenge, I take classes about living environment, nature, coaching, in-house emergency service and hospitality.
It’s really important to me to be a sustainable enterprise and I work according to the green key. Sailing the New Maen made me appreciate the elements even more. In our society, people constantly compromise with time, contacts, priorities, etc. Although it’s simply wonderful to have time for yourself and eachother, right?
Sometimes people ask me if a group never gets bored on board. Because of the fast world and the many stimulants, we do not expercience that ‘boredom’ enhances creativity. “
